brandflake11 Shadow Valley (Bonus, Chiptune Concept) will massage your ears with beautiful bass passages and tingly figuration! This soundtrack is a must get; it's two soundtracks in one and shows how the same source material can be reformatted for other aesthetics. Not to mention, everything is well written and thought-out! Favorite track: Shadow Valley (Bonus, Chiptune Concept).

about

The King has been kidnapped, and the land of Reynard is under siege! Gather a party and travel your way to different lands in a quest to re-seal an ancient evil. MazeQuest 2 is a throwback to the 16-bit RPG era, with colorful 2D graphics and top-down turn-based combat. The game is designed to be simple enough for casual players, but with a level of strategy to satisfy even the most diehard RPG buffs.

The MazeQuest 2 soundtrack, composed by Christopher “Mazedude” Getman, is a fitting contribution to the game, taking the soundscape just a step above the 16-bit palette, while still maintaining epic orchestral themes… albeit with a touch of fusion.

OMB Media says “Christopher was a real professional, and easy to work with throughout the scoring process for MazeQuest 2. He’s clearly very talented; our only regret is not having more time to focus on the music, given the development schedule. It feels like we only scratched the surface of what was possible. We’re hoping in the future to be able to partner again!”

Mazedude says “It was a real pleasure working on the MazeQuest 2 soundtrack. Not only did the project satisfy a musical bucket list item for me – I mean, c’mon, classic RPG themes including maps, battles, castles and more – but I was very happy to be given a world where the orchestral sounds could mix seamlessly with both the gothic and ethnic flavors. True, I was working with samples, but I’m pleased that – throughout the course of the soundtrack – I was able to weave in not only the baroque stylings of church organ, harpsichord, lute, etc., but also some more exotic flavor including the sounds of Alpen horn, Apache shaker, bandoneon, berimbau, Chinese gongs, erhu, hammered dulcimer, hurdy gurdy, koto, pan flute, saz, sitar, steel drums, tabla, taiko drums, Tibetan bells, tin whistle, uilleann pipes, and more.”

Additionally, it was agreed early on in the project that the composer would initially present most of the tracks in 8-bit/chiptune fashion, for proof of concept, so that the core musical elements of each piece could be agreed upon before any orchestration took place. For your listening pleasure, we’re pleased to present all of the original chiptune concept pieces as part of the official soundtrack release. You’ll be able to hear which tracks ended up close to the original concept art, and which ones evolved quite a bit along the way. We’ve even opted to include a selection of unused themes (both orchestral and chiptune), to further showcase the extensive drafting process that went into the final soundtrack. Enjoy!
