Simply put, I had it in my head that a theme with notes that continually rise would feel more victorious (listen to the Credit music), and a theme that had notes that constantly went down in pitch (like this one) would come across as, well, less victorious.

The original version of this theme actually had a pitch-bend to a positive chord twist at the very end, as if there was a hopeful edge in the defeat. But, it was awkward, so, sadly it had to be removed. This still works though.
