about
Some years ago, way back in college I think, I wrote a harpsichord piece. I loved it; it was quirky, chromatic, catchy, and very Peter McConnell-esque. The thing is, I had no use for it. It wasn't written for a specific project, or even with a performer in mind. And so, it sat in limbo. Yet, I had a radar to maybe someday find a spot where it could be used.
Here comes 2018, and with it, the MazeQuest 2 original soundtrack. One of the themes on the list was Tavern music. Shortly into the project, I submitted my old harpsichord piece as a concept to work from, and it was initially approved.
But, here's the problem. We developed the rest of the soundtrack. After which, this track didn't fit anymore. And believe me, I tried HARD to make it fit. However, no matter how I treated the material, it still came across as too whimsical to work as the Tavern theme. A brand new track had to be developed, and what you hear in the game is that new track. Sadly, my old harpsichord solo hadn't found a home yet. (And this is only a fraction of the original, actually.) Still, I wanted to include the tune because I like it, and because it still aided in the development of the official tavern music. Some of the sonic elements still found their way into the new, finished theme.
