about

Yes, so there's me, crafting battle themes for a game. Of course I had to make one of them work within an unusual time signature. As you can tell from the draft, this wasn't my first attempt, but it was the first one that worked. 5/4 battle music, with a mix of influences including some Robert Prince Doom 2 music, and some Steve Reich minimalism, fused together.

Getting the orchestration right on this one... was hard. Mixing the brass chord palette was tricky, finding the right mix for the high notes was a challenge (can you hear the steel drum?), and then the lead bits that play over the top of it all had to be blended just right between strings, more brass, and synthy elements. Taking the chiptune concept to the next level was a job indeed... but worth it!
